Chianti Classico is the biggest sub-area of Chianti, the heart of the old original Chianti area. We are in Tuscany, one of the most popular Italian region renown worldwide, where Chianti is divided into seven geographical zones, each with its own wine production, quality certification and label.
The Chianti Classico area is the most prestigious of all and it is limited to the provinces between Florence and Siena, counting only 14 councils (including Greve, Castellina, Gaiole and Radda, the first four to be officially recognised as Chianti producing areas). It is in this restricted geographical area, with a total of approximately 70,000 hectares, that one of the most famous and valued wine in the world is produced, the Chianti Classico. Chianti origin goes back to the 13th century when this area of Tuscany was officially identified as a wine region and its borders marked with and edict by the Gran Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici, in 1716.
